You never cease to amaze me. You gave me the most beautiful gift I could have ever asked for. You gave me a person who loves me, makes me laugh and sings Ignition with me. You gave me a shoulder to cry on, a person always there to eat food with me, and someone who loves Taylor Swift as much as me.
Sometime after you hung the stars and painted the sea you planned the world and those who would call you Farther. I thank you every day that you decided to hand-craft my best friend, and you allowed our paths to cross. Because of her, I am a better disciple and friend. Because of her, I have joy. Because of you, I have her.
There will come a day when she will meet the one who you destined her to spend her everyday with. There will come a day when the greatest person I know will meet a lucky man who will be the father to her children and the one who will look at her in the eyes and say “I do”. I know your plans are better than even my prayers; but I can’t help but pray for her lucky guy.
I pray he puts YOU first.
I pray he doesn’t idolize my best friend, yet idolizes you. I pray His house is built on you Lord, and not anything from the world. I know my best friend isn’t perfect. She has flaws and she will fail. So will the man she marries. But you my God are perfect, and worshiping you and prioritizing your name is what gives our lives purpose. I pray he knows that.
I pray he makes my best friend feel beautiful.
My best friend is hot and he better remind her that daily, because I know how easily she struggles with seeing her beauty. However, I also pray he reminds her how beautiful her fruits are. I pray he points her to the truth to find her beauty. See, although I think my friend is one beautiful gal, the most beautiful thing about her has nothing to do with her. The most beautiful thing about her has to deal with her Creator. I pray he reminds her that her beauty is from God, and not from how many likes she got or if she has a wrinkle or is pimple-free.
I pray he respects her.
Because you know Lord I may sin if I see him hurt her. She is a daughter of you the King of Kings, and deserves to be treated that way.
I pray he is a man who will make a great father to their children.
He should lead her and their family by example. His children should respect him and admire to be like him. I pray for their family and that together both reflect you my God in all they do.
I pray he laughs at her jokes even when they aren’t that funny.
I pray he is so joyed by being her person that by simply being in her presence he is overwhelmed with happiness. I pray they love each other’s quirks well.
I pray when she looks at Him she will realize your plan was right all along.
I was there for her breakup when she cried and we listened to T-Swift for three months. I was there when that stupid boy she was “talking to” made her insecure and feel worthless. I was there when she questioned your plans Lord and felt like there was no one out there who would love her like you. But Lord, although I was there, you were there first. You were by her side through the valleys and kept her on a path that will one day lead to this man she will marry. I pray when she sees her husband she understands that there was good in goodbye and beauty in her adversity. I pray she channels Rascal Flatts on her wedding day and says “God bless the broken road that lead me straight to you”. Your plans Lord aren’t our plans, and praise God that is the truth.
Lord, I pray she finds a man who loves her like you love her. I pray she finds someone who makes her dance when no music is playing and smile even when she receives a bill in the mail. I pray she finds someone who makes watching the Price Is Right while drinking wine feel about as romantic as a walk in Barcelona. I pray one day when she is 80 and I’m rocking by her side we can talk about how you did it. I pray we look at each and other smile, knowing that you plans were greater than any of our Pinterest boards.
And while you are at it, make my future husband whoever he is pretty rockin’ as well.
I’ve talked in plenty of my articles about the importance of praying for your future husband. However, I never talked about what it is like to have a friendship so rooted in faith that you both pray for their desires and their futures. My goal for all my readers is that you share this with your daughter or best friend(s) and remind them that you are praying for them, not just yourself. You love them like Jesus and wish for their person to be someone who encourages them to fall more in love with Jesus.
So pray for yourself yes, but also pray for others. Pray for strangers and pray for best friends. Pray.
