Girls are like ice cream.

I know what you are thinking– I’m going to open this random blog I saw on Facebook to see what the heck this crazy girl means.

But hear me out.

Girls are like ice cream. We are wonderful, beautiful and worth a cool Instagram photo. We make people happy and bring joy to those lucky enough to encounter us. Every girl is different, like ice cream flavors. Some are more nutty than the rest, some sweeter. Some are basic (so me tbh), and some are full of pleasant surprises like cookie dough.

However, ice cream needs to be taken care of…or else it is ruined. If ice cream is not enjoyed and put in the right conditions; it becomes sad ice cream soup that is no fun for anyone.

The beauty of being a woman is we are wonderful. We are full of joy, fun and spontaneous surprises. However, we are also delicate, fragile and need to be mindful about how our surroundings effect us.

If you put ice cream out in the world too long, without any protection–it will melt.

A woman’s heart needs to be protected. The world is harsh on women. The world tells women daily that they aren’t “pretty enough”, “tough enough”, “skinny enough”, and/or “smart enough”.  And like the sun’s rays beat down on ice cream on a hot day; our heart can be hurt with if we allow the world to define our worth. If we allow the world to determine how we feel about our worth, we destroy ourselves.

Being a girl is a gift. The world would not be the same without us. We bring the world joy and like ice cream we make the world sweeter. However, as a girl you need to protect your heart from the things of this world that continually tell you that you are not good enough. That boy from the toxic relationship who keeps coming back, the “friend” who continually leads you to making bad decisions, and even the magazine that makes you hate the masterpiece God created in you.

I am by no means saying “the minute you step into the world, you destroy yourself and become melted, no good ice cream”. See, ice cream is used for those who feel over heated at the beach. Ice cream is used to cool those off outside who are feeling too hot. You can be used in this world to bring those who are suffering a piece of goodness and joy.

However, if you allow yourself to be completely surrounded by the world and its sin, you can easily allow yourself to stumble and fall. And when you stumble and fall you forget how worthy you are.

I pray the next time you eat ice cream, you remember what a joy you can be in this world. I pray you realize that when you let the world determine your worth, you will end up not feeling good enough. However, once you take care of your soul, feed yourself the truth, and surround yourself with those who are pushing you to seek Christ not the world– you realize you are good enough for God and that is all that matters.

Now go get yourself some Ben and Jerry’s.

Proverbs 13:20 “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

I love Jesus, diet coke and sunflowers. I wish I lived in the mountains, but love the two states I call home--Louisiana and Texas. I can watch Criminal Minds all day and dream of one day owning an ice cream truck for fun. However, my main goal in life is that more girls will realize the worth they have through Christ Jesus--and with Him and Him only we are enough.

  1. I have just found your blog through a friends recommendation, and I love it! Thank you for being a Christian woman who speaks the truth-and so relatable! Definitely subscribing 🙂

    1. Awh that made my day!! Tell your friend I said thank you for sharing that and I am so joyful you found the truth in this website 🙂 I pray for you and your friends walk with the Lord and that y’all come to fully know the beauty of your worth! Y’all rock <3

  2. I came across your blog through a friend’s Facebook post and I absolutely love it! It’s so great to have such uplifting posts from someone close to my age who understands the things we go through. Thanks for being awesome and keep up the good work 🙂

  3. I remember my youth pastors teaching us about Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good” My Y.P.s used ice cream as the analogy. I can taste it and its sweetness all day long, but until you do the same, you will never know just how wonderful it is. This was a great post. Girls are like ice cream…
